Why schema markup still matters in 2026

Google's SGE and AI Overviews rely heavily on structured data to understand what a page is about. Pages with valid schema get eligible for Rich Results (star ratings, FAQ accordions, HowTo carousels, price + stock badges) that dominate search real estate and steal clicks from position 1. What is schema markup?+

JSON-LD vs Microdata vs RDFa?+

Google explicitly recommends JSON-LD. It sits in a <script> tag in your <head> and doesn't affect your HTML. Microdata and RDFa are legacy — use JSON-LD for anything new.

Where do I paste the output?+

Copy the <script> block and paste it inside your <head> section (or anywhere in the body — Google reads both). One <script> per schema type per page.

How do I test my schema?+

Use Google's Rich Results Test (search.google.com/test/rich-results). Paste the JSON-LD or the live URL — the validator shows errors and preview.

Will schema make me rank higher?+

Do I need schema on every page?+

Match the schema to the page type. Product schema on product pages, Article on blog posts, FAQPage on pages with real Q&A, LocalBusiness on your contact/about page. Don't stuff types that don't match.
